Camera Cupcakes by The Cake Galleria

camera themed cupcakes

So this year, I finally got a positive reply from a baker who does cupcake customization to create camera themed cupcakes for the boyfriend’s birthday. I ordered from The Cake Galleria, and let me tell you a story about how awesome their service is.

I ordered the cupcakes a full month before the actual day, and Grace (contact person for The Cake Galleria), was really helpful in the order process. She was always in contact with me from the initial enquiry stage to the actual order to payment process and finally a gentle reminder for me to collect the cupcakes a day before.

And when I didn’t reply her reminder SMS for collection (because my phone was on silent), she messaged me again to ensure I got the message – which itself was already really excellent service. So I was really hyped up about the cupcakes by then, ready to collect them at 10 am today (technically yesterday).

So it was a complete surprise when I got a call from Grace at 9 am, asking me if I can collect the cupcakes late afternoon. I was puzzled because we’ve always set the collection time between 10 – 10.30 am. Then she told me that someone just accidentally dropped the entire box of cupcakes and they have to re-do them from scratch.

She apologized profusely, and then apologized again several times over SMS. Even though it meant a sudden turn around of the plans I had for the day, I told her it was okay as these things happen (they do!) and that I’ll get a friend to help me pick it up in the evening.

She thanked me for understanding. I was just appreciative that they were gonna re-do the entire dozen of cupcakes from scratch at such late notice. Seriously, it was huge as she told me during the order process that my request takes a longer time to complete than normal orders.

The camera equipment were as detailed as you can imagine them to be. The boy couldn’t have been more pleased. I know the fondant looks like it hasn’t fully dried (because it is supposed to be smooth and matte), but I’m not complaining. They did their best, and I am so thankful for that.

Thank you Grace and Samuel for your quick action and all your help. You’ve been most helpful!

Brunch at Chili’s RWS

Couple of weeks back, FP and I found ourselves at Resorts World Sentosa to check out the Transformers Convention (which is not worth more bandwidth of a mention). Before we got sorely disappointed by the aforementioned Convention, we had brunch at Chili’s first.

It was my second visit to Chili’s and his first and here were our picks for the day:

Chili's Grilled Shrimp Alfredo

I was in a weird mood that day where I didn’t feel like having Mexican cuisine when I was indeed at a Mexican restaurant. So I had pasta.

The Grilled Shrimp Alfredo was good as far as creamy pasta goes, but I found it a tad too creamy. Not a big fan of creamy pasta here, but this is one that creamy pasta lovers would enjoy.

We also ordered the buffalo wings, aptly named Wings Over Buffalo.

Chili's Wings Over Buffalo

The serving consists of 8 wings with celery sticks and a blue cheese dressing. We only ordered this because I’ve been craving for spicy buffalo wings for the longest time. It was alright I guess, if you had no expectations. It had a mild taste of spice but not exactly the level of spiciness that we were looking for. Still makes a pretty photo nonetheless.

Chili's Southern Smokehouse Bacon Big Mouth Burger

As for the mister, he was attracted to the Southern Smokehouse Bacon Big Mouth Burger in the Chili’s menu. Big mouth required, seriously. Somehow, he didn’t seem that happy with his meal (looks better than it tastes I guess?) and he even said that he preferred my pasta.

What. How can the most tasty thing we ordered at a Mexican restaurant be the pasta dish?!

Also I’d have to say that the service wasn’t really top-notch. It took ages for someone to notice that we were ready to order. And longer still for the food to come. And I really hate waiting, for anything for that matter.

Anyway, here are the details of Chili’s at RWS:

Lunch at Hajah Maimunah

Hajah Maimunah Joo Chiat

So yesterday, in a rare moment of family time, we went for lunch at Hajah Maimunah Restaurant. I’ve only been to the Arab Street branch once, many years back so this was a sort of new dining experience for me.

For the uninitiated, Hajah Maimunah serves a huge variety of Nasi Padang dishes and also traditional Malay kueh. And these below are our chosen dishes for the day:

Beef Rendang

Lemak Siput (Escargot)

Anybody out there who doesn’t know how to eat this? You suck. I mean it, you need to suck on it!

Salad (lettuce, cucumber and kacang botok) with Sambal Belacan

Very tasty sambal I must say.

This came with yummy sambal kicap by the side (with chili padi in it).

Sorry can’t really name this one. All I know is that it’s some kind of seafood. Not even on the online menu! But it’s yummy tho!

Tea Time at TWG

twg tea

Spent a few delightful hours at TWG last weekend for tea, desserts and awesome food. It was after watching Wicked, and it was really nice and relaxing to be just be there and enjoying good food and great company.

It wasn’t my first time at TWG, but it was the first time that we stayed for a really long time and indulged in quite a portion of the menu.

My favourite tea for the day was clearly the strawberry tea (but since when don’t I ever not like anything strawberry?)

Because the three of us were way too early for our dinner date with our other friends, we ordered some cakes to tide over the hunger pangs.

Chocolate Fondant TWG

This was the Chocolate Fondant. That warm chocolate cake was too decadent for words, and paired with the scoop of Vanilla Bourbon Tea ice cream – it was simply divine.

Normandy Apple Tart TWG

This, on the other hand, was the Normandy Apple Tart. Excellent tart indeed, that goes very well with the scoop of Singapore Breakfast Tea ice cream by the side. There seems to be some kind of spice in the ice cream. Can’t be sure if it was cinnamon or star aniseed. But it was quite the flavour.

Later on, we ordered the Bolognaise lagsane to share. Totally forgot to snap a photo though.

When all of the dinner party arrived, we started ordering our main courses and here are some of the stuff we had (with the exception of my Smoked Scottish Salmon because sometimes some dishes are not photogenic):

To end it, I had a scoop of Chocolate Earl Grey ice cream:

Pretty great way to end a pleasant evening, don’t you think?

Just wanted to share my current favourite ring, a faux gold bird ring, and my best buy of the weekend, a replica magnet of Van Gogh’s Starry, Starry Night. I love it to bits!

Going Mediterranean at Pita Pan

In keeping up with my new year’s resolution of eating healthy, I’ve been on a lookout for nice restaurants that are kind to the waistline and yet taste yummy.

We had brunch at Pita Pan yesterday, since we were at Marina Bay Sands to catch Wicked anyway. For a restaurant that specializes in vegetarian cuisine, and promising “a pocketful of health”, it sure does serve really great food. We were quite lost at what to order, so they recommended we try out the red shakshuka and the Mediterranean platter.

And so we did, with freshly squeezed apple juice by the side.

fresh apple juice

I know that this is just apple juice but let me just say that it was really good apple juice. Perhaps I’m biased because I really do like apple juice and quite particular about it.

Moving on to the main stars of the meal, this is the red shakshuka that I spoke of earlier.

It’s basically this hot plate dish that comes with a naan-like bread, and you just have to dip the bread in it. I really have no idea what was in it but it was absolutely yummy. Hard to believe that it was vegetarian!

And this was very worth the price – it was only $9.90!

The Mediterranean platter was just alright. It came with the same naan-like bread, but this time in tiny triangles and an assortment of dips/side dishes for you to pair with the bread.

Sorry didn’t manage to take the other side of the platter (because we were really starving), but it included things like falafel, peanut dips and other dips that we can’t really recognize.

Though the platter seems to offer a fair variety of this and that, I feel that the price of $24 was not really justified. Yes it’s delicious and all, but the red shakshuka stole the show, despite its price. I think it’s our personal favourite for now!

It was quite an enjoyable lunch, as the restaurant was hardly crowded in the early afternoon. Great venue for a casual date, topped with awesome food. Who says vegetarian food are not yummy?
