A Lookback at 2010

2010. Where do I even start.

If I want to be objective, I’ll say that 2010 has been a year of changes and emotions.

If I want to be crude, I’ll say that 2010 has been a total mindfuck bitchass of a year.

A run down through my year:

1. My limited edition oakley frogskin flew out the car window in Malaysia. FP got me another pair in Feb, but it’s just not the same. You know?

2. I taught myself how to sew. I sewed that pink teddy from scratch, imperfect as it may seem. It’s still a masterpiece to me.

3. I quit coffee for good. Didn’t think it was possible, but I did it. It still amazes me how I can get thru a sleepy day without coffee. I’m awesome.

4. Started the year in Malaysia: Malacca, KL, Batu Pahat. This photo was taken in Malacca.

5. We finally tried the level 30 spicy wings!

6. We got ourselves a Nintendo Wii, as if the PS3 wasn’t enough.

7. FP had an accident that caused him to be homebound for 5 months. We spent a good half of the year indoors and having indoor picnics all the time.

8. FP dabbled in food photography, during our indoor pinics. Awesome shots of awesome food. That must be where this excess weight is coming from :P

9. WORLD CUP. I had a fantastic June thanks to endless football matches. Lack of sleep was a given of course, but it was so worth it :) Even though my heart was with Germany through and through, my favourite moment was still the day New Zealand trashed Italy. It was epic.

10. Sour Sally finally opens in Singapore. This made my entire week, the week i discovered about it. Since then, I’ve been downing the froyo with plenty of yummy mochi. I wonder where I can get the mochi, it’s absolutely yummy.

11. Ariel Peterporn saga. This came right in the middle of the world cup, so as you can tell – I had a very interesting June. Can never get the image of Ariel’s big and nice.. watches and his wonderful butt. Yes, I saw both videos. Was awaiting the third one but then.. he just had to turn himself in, sigh sigh. I really hope he won’t be put away for 12 years. I haven’t even watched him live, for god’s sake.

12. Singapore got flooded. Even my neighbourhood got affected, wished I’d been there when it happened but I was at work.

13. Speaking of work, I left the job that I love and ended up in another job, which didn’t last long – for so many reasons. But it gave me the chance to be a mac user for 2 months, so no complaints there.

In summary:

Top 5 Highlights:
1) World Cup 2010 (we should have it every year!)
2) Discovered Tumblr (only awesome people will get this)
3) Sour Sally opens in Singapore! (mixed mochi ftw)
4) 2 words: iphone 4 (blackberry who?)
5) Ariel Peterporn (my hottest asian man has nice big.. watches and a nice butt)

Top 5 Downers:
1) Broke up with FP (got back 2 weeks later, but it was still one of the darkest periods of the year)
2) Left a job I absolutely loved (this is like a second breakup)
3) FP got into a major traffic accident (left him homebound for 5 months, we spent a good half of the year indoors)
4) Sucking at a new job so bad that it was short-lived; it peaked and ended within 2 months.
5) I didn’t get to travel at all this year

So that was my year. Thought it pretty much sucked, but as I was doing up this post and remembering fun and great stuff – it didn’t seem too bad after all. It’s all about perspective.

Before I did this post, I was feeling afraid to face 2011. But now that I feel better about the year, I look forward to a better year.

It’s all about perspective, isn’t it?

iPhone App Picks for the Week

Last week I did something blasphemous when I switched from my pinky, girly blackberry to a sleek and sexy iphone 4. I’ll go into a compare and contrast mode between the two phones in another post but this post focuses on my favourite apps this week.

Long before I had my own iphone, I already had a taste of the apps through my itouch and FP’s iphone 3GS. So things like God Finger and We Rule won’t be included in this post.

So let’s get down to my top 5 favourite apps for the past week (don’t you just love the screen capture function on the iphone?):

1) Charadium

This app revolves around the concept of “win, lose or draw”. You take turns with other players to draw the given words and try to guess what one another is drawing. Very addictive and plenty of fun.

This is me drawing “sadness”, lol. So okay I’m not the world’s best drawer but I’ve discovered people worse than me through this game. Take a look at this guy. He was trying to draw “television”.

2) Talking Tom

This app is really adorable! Tom the Cat mimicks everything you say and gets angry when you try to pull his tail. Yes it’s something like Talking Carl but more lovable. This app had my family in stitches! Oh and when you’re talking, Tom holds his ear out like this:

3) Foursquare

I really, really love the interface in Foursquare for iphone. Such a lovely change after the ugly interface on the blackberry. Best thing is that it captures my current location within reasonable distance, unlike the foursquare for blackberry. Don’t stalk me now ;)

4) Mega Jump

This is an arcade type of game where you gotta make this cute red monster (whom FP says looks like me, lol) go all the way up by jumping on gold coins.

It’s funny and addictive. Good way to pass the time.

5) Super Fall

While Mega Jump takes you higher and higher, Super Fall makes you fall from a very great height. The main character is a sack-like character (not unlike the sack boy in Little Black Planet) and you have to guide him down. Be careful because the obstacles on the way down might make him lose some limbs, catch fire or even get a little drunk.

So that’s my pick for this week. Look out for another 5 apps next week! :)

p/s: this entire post was typed on my iphone 4.

iTouch Apps – Pocket God

I have become more and more dependent and addicted to my iTouch.

Almost inseparable to be honest. Not only do I have all my songs inside with their respective album arts that were painstakingly done, it is where I can Twitter, go on Facebook, check my email and chat on MSN & Yahoo Messenger on the go.

What’s not to love? And I haven’t even mentioned the games I have installed.

One of my favourite iTouch (and okay, iPhone) applications is Pocket God. Every one of us has a sadistic side and this game appeals to that side of you that is often hidden from society. Have you ever felt like flinging that person irritating you into a volcano? Or wished he would get struck by lightning? How about feeding him to the sharks?

Well now you can! Without breaking any laws :D

Ok basically the setting for this game is on an island that can hold up to 6 islanders at any one time.

There’s so many things to do to vent your anger on these innocent islanders! You could…

1) Pour hot lava on them, after flinging 3 of them into the volcano. Flinging them takes a bit of practice but it is very satisfying, especially on an angry day. And it is made complete when the volcano erupts and lava falls over the island, throwing them in a panic frenzy.

2) Make them get struck by lightning. This is fairly simple to understand, no? Smite them! Smite them!

Lightning

3) Turn one into the vampire and he will be on a rampage to throw everyone off the island.

4) Feed them to the sharks. Head first. You can do this in two ways: Dangle the islander over the waters and wait for Mr. Shark to jump up and bite them OR you could dangle the shark over them and watch it chomp on them. Yummy.

There are so much more danger that you can inflict on them. Such as:

1) Stir up a hurricane and make them go swirling round and round in the air.
2) After letting the vampire have fun shoving everybody off the island, it’s time to let him have some sunshine. Watch him shatter!
3) Make them cling on to dear life by turning your itouch or iphone upside down. And give them a little earthquake by shaking your gadget :D
4) Squash them with a meteor
5) Crack open coconuts with the help of islanders’ heads :P
6) Take islanders to great heights and then let them go. Before you let go, swing them around and round.

Okay I’m starting to sound like an evil person so I’m going stop. It’s really an enjoyable app and it’s great for anger management. It’s better than losing your temper out in the open, no?

By the time you are done torturing your islanders, your anger will be half forgotten.

A win-win situation, don’t you think? :D
