A Lookback at 2010

2010. Where do I even start.

If I want to be objective, I’ll say that 2010 has been a year of changes and emotions.

If I want to be crude, I’ll say that 2010 has been a total mindfuck bitchass of a year.

A run down through my year:

1. My limited edition oakley frogskin flew out the car window in Malaysia. FP got me another pair in Feb, but it’s just not the same. You know?

2. I taught myself how to sew. I sewed that pink teddy from scratch, imperfect as it may seem. It’s still a masterpiece to me.

3. I quit coffee for good. Didn’t think it was possible, but I did it. It still amazes me how I can get thru a sleepy day without coffee. I’m awesome.

4. Started the year in Malaysia: Malacca, KL, Batu Pahat. This photo was taken in Malacca.

5. We finally tried the level 30 spicy wings!

6. We got ourselves a Nintendo Wii, as if the PS3 wasn’t enough.

7. FP had an accident that caused him to be homebound for 5 months. We spent a good half of the year indoors and having indoor picnics all the time.

8. FP dabbled in food photography, during our indoor pinics. Awesome shots of awesome food. That must be where this excess weight is coming from :P

9. WORLD CUP. I had a fantastic June thanks to endless football matches. Lack of sleep was a given of course, but it was so worth it :) Even though my heart was with Germany through and through, my favourite moment was still the day New Zealand trashed Italy. It was epic.

10. Sour Sally finally opens in Singapore. This made my entire week, the week i discovered about it. Since then, I’ve been downing the froyo with plenty of yummy mochi. I wonder where I can get the mochi, it’s absolutely yummy.

11. Ariel Peterporn saga. This came right in the middle of the world cup, so as you can tell – I had a very interesting June. Can never get the image of Ariel’s big and nice.. watches and his wonderful butt. Yes, I saw both videos. Was awaiting the third one but then.. he just had to turn himself in, sigh sigh. I really hope he won’t be put away for 12 years. I haven’t even watched him live, for god’s sake.

12. Singapore got flooded. Even my neighbourhood got affected, wished I’d been there when it happened but I was at work.

13. Speaking of work, I left the job that I love and ended up in another job, which didn’t last long – for so many reasons. But it gave me the chance to be a mac user for 2 months, so no complaints there.

In summary:

Top 5 Highlights:
1) World Cup 2010 (we should have it every year!)
2) Discovered Tumblr (only awesome people will get this)
3) Sour Sally opens in Singapore! (mixed mochi ftw)
4) 2 words: iphone 4 (blackberry who?)
5) Ariel Peterporn (my hottest asian man has nice big.. watches and a nice butt)

Top 5 Downers:
1) Broke up with FP (got back 2 weeks later, but it was still one of the darkest periods of the year)
2) Left a job I absolutely loved (this is like a second breakup)
3) FP got into a major traffic accident (left him homebound for 5 months, we spent a good half of the year indoors)
4) Sucking at a new job so bad that it was short-lived; it peaked and ended within 2 months.
5) I didn’t get to travel at all this year

So that was my year. Thought it pretty much sucked, but as I was doing up this post and remembering fun and great stuff – it didn’t seem too bad after all. It’s all about perspective.

Before I did this post, I was feeling afraid to face 2011. But now that I feel better about the year, I look forward to a better year.

It’s all about perspective, isn’t it?

A day in KL

funny road sign

Okay this is the final installment of the Malaysian trip trilogy. It was a day trip to KL from Batu Pahat. The drive was not very long, but long enough to make Short Attention Span me bored.

Bored enough for me to be wearing my monkey hoodie (with monkey ears) with my first Oakley Frogskin Shades, indoors.

monkey hoodie

I camwhored, i chewed gum, i read. And then I lost my limited edition Oakley Frogskin. So after my precious shades flew off, I kept a very low profile in the car and mourned for the lost.

FP was very comforting though :) <3!

But my losing the shades actually kinda ruined my mood which is why most of the pictures you'll see in this post have me looking like a punani. What is a punani? Go figure.

We finally arrived at Damansara where we had lunch at Paddington House of Pancake - a pancake restaurant.

paddington's menu

What I remembered from this restaurant was that it was very tiring to read the menu. I don’t know if it was because I was exhausted from just crying but it was really difficult to focus on the menu. Each and every food name was not a food name.

They are named after cities, like Vienna and Brussels. And then a very elaborate description of what it was. A completely different dining experience!

Ok here are some photos of the food that we had. I’m sorry I can’t remember any of the names and what they actually are. But they will do your eyes good.

Not forgetting this photo. I wanted a Pineapple Freeze, which I expected to be a good mix of sweet-sour goodness. But it was incredibly sour that I thought it was lemon juice. We asked the waiter if they got the order wrong, but nooo.. it was pineapple freeze alright.

Fine.

sha's sour expression

So after lunch we shopped and shopped. I bought a lot of shoes and a lovely denim jacket. We tried on silly things, but no photos coz photography not allowed. What silly rules. I was amazed at the variety and quality of clothes and shoes at Charles & Kieth and Forever 21.

How come in KL the stuff are nicer in these shops than in Singapore. How unfair. :(

Some random photos in KL:

Here’s a proper photo of me and the horsey.

And finally it’s dinner, at this restaurant called Delicious. Seriously. But the food was indeed delicious, lucky for them. This was our spread!

sambal prawns with rice

This was my sambal prawns with rice. It was extremely yummy and has really too many things in a single dish. I was at a lost of what to eat first on my plate.

This was the full view of the contents:

pasta

I can’t remember if this was FP’s dish or Kawan E’s but it was creamy pasta anyhows.

Yummy yummy strawberry cheesecake!

And after a day of tears, eating and shopping, we made our way back to Batu Pahat.

Okay that’s it for the Malaysian trip! Till the next trip we take!

Oakley Frogskins Revived

greg_lutzka_oakley_frogskin_00 image taken from Sirextra.

Remember how devastated I was when I lost my Oakleys somewhere along the Malaysian North-South Highway?

Well, I’m glad to say that I have gotten yet another pair of the limited Greg Lutzka Edition of the Oakley Frogskins.

FP had a terribly hard time looking for it everywhere, despite me telling him it’s really not about getting another pair. I thought he stopped looking for it after awhile because he didn’t mention anything about it anymore. But the fact was, he never brought it up again simply because he has found it.

He wanted to give it to me as our anniversary gift in April, but since it was Valentine’s Day yesterday, he decided to bring forward the gift giving. And it was so unexpected, really.

This pair of Greg Lutzka shades is not a brand new pair, unlike the first one that I had. It has a few scratches that need fixing, but these are minor flaws. I hardly noticed them. It doesn’t matter that it’s not a perfect pair.

The fact that FP managed to find the same pair of this limited edition piece is just.. amazing. And I am so lucky to have someone who does that for me. And who else has 2 of the same pair of a limited edition Oakleys in one lifetime?

ME.

Thank you, thank you, thank you FP! xoxo, <3!

Tribute for my Oakleys Frogskin Shades

n864150061_5171600_6094

This shouldn’t even be a blog post because what happened to my Oakleys shouldn’t have happened.

But it did and there was nothing I can do about it. So let me tell you exactly what happened.

I was chewing gum, bored in the middle of a long road trip to Kuala Lumpur. Chewed on the gum till there was no taste so I asked FP for a tissue paper for me to throw the gum away. (this was despite me having tissue in the back and in the pockets of the the right passenger door, but when things are meant to happened, they just will.)

retro

He told me to just spit it out the window, because that was what he did anyway.

(no, i don’t normally spit out the window, which was precisely why I asked for a tissue paper!)

So okay, I did spit out. But because I am an inexperienced spitter, the gum seem to have gone in a weird direction. So in order to ensure it didn’t get stuck to the car, I popped my head out the window.

Silly, silly girl.

My shades were on top of my head. No, actually I was wearing my Paul Frank hoodie (complete with monkey ears) with the hood on, and my shades were placed right on top of it, on my head.

Don’t ask me why I was dressed up like that. I don’t know.

week-7-17

But, as soon as I popped my head out the window, I saw something white flying away from it. It was purplish too. It took me two seconds to realised what just happened. And I suddenly went, “MY SHADES. IT FLEW OUT!”

It stunned everybody in the car but we were getting further and further away from my shades that was getting more and more crushed as we went along. There were too many fast moving cars. It was on the freaking highway. There was NOTHING we could have done. Even if I were to get out, I would have gotten myself killed or injured and still the shades would have been just shattered plastic.

And when the reality of things dawned on me (took another 5 seconds), I just started crying nonstop. I hate to lose my things. I get annoyed even when my things do not work or look like they should. I have an unexplainable emotional binding with all my things. Perhaps the cause of being an only child.

When you are an only child, you become emotionally attached to the things around you. And that was exactly what happened to me.

This pair of Oakleys has so much meaning.

1) It was a gift from FP at the end of 2008
2) It is a limited edition pair.
3) Quirky in purple and white
4) I love it.

dsc04124

This should be a lesson to me not to be so emotionally attached to me. FP tried and tried again to console me in the car. But the tears wont stop, and when it did, I was silent for the rest of the trip.

A round of shopping afterward cheered me up a little but FP wasn’t fooled.

Later that night, FP consoled me again. Again tears came. He told me it is just a “thing” and it’s not important. He told me that things happen for a reason and that he understood what I was feeling. He understood my emotional bind to my belongings, and how I love all my things.

He would get another pair for me. But I told him that it’s not about getting another pair at all. And he said he knows. He gently told me not to think about it anymore, repeating that it is just a “thing” which could be bought again. All I could see was the shades flying away from me. That image remains in my head.

But as heartbreaking as this whole situation is, there was really nothing we could have done. Perhaps things do happen for a reason. Perhaps I was meant to lose it. But hey, it was fun while it lasted.
